Watch: President Michael D Higgins reveals his 80th birthday plans as he surprises walkers (and us!) in Phoenix Park
President Michael D Higgins said his 80th birthday plans are “somewhat limited”, but he is excited to watch a musical extravaganza on TG4.
Ireland's president exclusively revealed his plans to Independent.ie as he walked his two dogs around the grounds of Áras an Uachtaráin.
“This is Misneach and this is Bród," he said, gesturing to his beloved dogs.
Walkers in Phoenix Park stopped to chat with our Independent.ie videographer Michael Carolan and send the president a ‘happy birthday’ message, when the star of the show himself walked towards the video camera and waved.
President Michael D Higgins was happy to share his birthday plans with Independent.ie, saying they are “somewhat limited” due to restrictions.
“I haven’t any plans. My plans are somewhat limited,” he said, mentioning that his children are either working or living away from the Áras.
“One of my sons will be with me, and Sabina," he said.
“TG4 have some wonderful musicians lined up so I’ll definitely watch that.”
The Limerick man will celebrate his 80th birthday this Sunday, April 18th.
