Panda cubs make debut to welcome 2022 Chinese New Year


20 panda cubs made their public debut at the Wolong National Nature Reserve in southwestern China on Monday. The panda toddlers, ranging from 120 to 190 days old, were seen crawling on snow through toy sleds and skis at the debut ceremony, marking the Year of the Tiger and the upcoming Beijing Winter Olympics. The China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Pandas in Sichuan Province said 27 pandas were delivered in 2021. An official for the Center said that, in 2021, 10 female pandas were selected for a breeding plan to maintain good genetic diversity with artificial breeding also taking place, in order to teach mothers how to take care of cubs. There are currently 356 pandas living in the Center.
