Irish state must implement tougher actions to combat gender violence, say human rights group

Maëlle Noir and Judit Villena Rodo, PhD scholars at the Irish Centre for Human Rights, are advocating greater and more sustainable change for Ireland's fight against gender-violence.

They say the Irish government need to step up and do more, as well as continue to build on progress they have implemented.

The calls for change come as Ireland has seen a 'shadow pandemic' of gender-based violence during the coronavirus lockdown.

Calls to Women's Aid in Ireland have seen a massive increas and refuges for women fleeing violence have become less accessible.
