Each infection raised the possibility of a new Covid variant - Oxford virologist

An evolutionary virologist at the University of Oxford has said that although coronavirus mutates very quickly, "there is a limit to the mutations", but that it was unclear when this "limit will happen". Dr Emilia Skirmuntt also said there was some evidence that Omicron is less severe than other variants of coronavirus, but it would take a couple of weeks to gather more data.
