Christmas songs calm dairy cows
Christmas songs are being used by a dairy farmer to soothe his cattle over the festive season, and he claims the music makes the milk they produce taste better. Irish farmer Joe Hayden has been supplying high-end cream to Baileys since its launch in 1974, and he swears by playing tunes to his 180 ‘Baileys Ladies’ to relax them, leading to the cows releasing a hormone that lowers stress levels, leading to better milk. During December, the Co Wicklow farmer has been playing carols and pop classics to his herd, although during the rest of the year his Holstein Friesians are treated to Bruce Springsteen, Coldplay and The Killers.
