Prabal Gurung launches sophisticated Lane Bryant collaboration
Prabal Gurung wants women to feel assured and confident in his designs for Lane Bryant.
The Nepalese-American designer has teamed up with the plus-size fashion label for a 22-piece collection, with the accompanying campaign to be fronted by model Ashley Graham.
Full of chic and stylish garments like a monochrome floral midi skirt and a cropped biker jacket, Gurung insists designing for curvaceous women was no different to working on the clothes for his eponymous brand.
"I want to create clothes that feel sophisticated, that feel elevated, that feel nice that she can wear that feels good," he told Refinery29. "I want to create that outfit that when she wears it we are just like 'Oh wow.' I wanted to have a silent quiet whisper of confidence. It is assured, not over or under confident."
He sourced inspiration for the range during a visit to France, with a cool Parisian vibe evident in items such as a white and navy striped wrap dress with a belt around the waist and dark blue culottes.
Sizes range from U.S. 10-28 (U.K. 14-32) and the whole line comes in at affordable prices, starting at $39 (£31) and going up to $198 (£159).
Speaking of his decision to cast Ashley, Gurung praised the 28-year-old for being "immensely inspiring".
In return, the brunette beauty gushed about how thrilled she is to be working with the New York-based designer.
"I was like, he's here for the big girls!" she laughed to Instyle.com. "It's really exciting because there's not a lot of designers who are willing to step out of their comfort zone and create a line specifically for curvy women. And Prabal being one of the highest end designers that (Lane Bryant) has ever worked with is huge."
The line will be available to purchase later this month (Feb17).
