Liverpool have insisted they are not looking to sign a replacement for departed midfielder Gini Wijnaldum, but they continue to be linked with a host of top names.

As was the case with their pursuit of Spain midfielder Thiago Alcantara last year, Liverpool insiders have insisted they are not looking to sign a midfielder in this summer's transfer window.

Yet despite those persistent denials, Thiago eventually sealed his move to Anfield and now there is a growing belief that Jurgen Klopp's side are in the market for a midfielder after all.

Leicester's Belgium midfielder Youri Tielemans has been persistently linked with a move to Liverpool throughout 2021 and now fresh reports in his homeland suggest he could end up at Anfield.

The midfielder who scored Leicester's winning goal in last season's FA Cup final against Chelsea would be an expensive purchase at around £50million, but the reports suggest Liverpool have made enquiries for the 24-year-old.

As yet, there has been no contact between Liverpool and Leicester over Tielemans, yet the persistent links suggest one side of this story are keen to promote the idea that a move could be possible.

Belgian outlet Voetbal24 claim Tielemans 'is already looking forward to making the switch to Anfield', yet Liverpool may have to off-load some of the fringe players to seal deals for new arrivals.

Several Liverpool players are available for transfer and their incomings may be impacted by the amount of cash that comes from sales, with Xherdan Shaqiri, Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi among the players believed to be on the way out.

Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez is another player believed to be on Liverpool's radar, with widespread reports in Spain suggesting the 2020 Premier League champions have made enquiries about the 26-year-old.

sundayworld.com have been informed that Anfield chiefs are keen to sign players with youthful potential this summer, with Klopp's ageing squad featuring several star names who are either over the age of 30 or approaching that mark.

Defender Ibrahima Konate, Liverpool's first signing of this summer, is just 23 and Liverpool chiefs are keen to ensure any additional arrivals help to pull down the average age of the first team squad.
