The big difference between Liverpool and Man United is clear to see

As I watched Liverpool humiliate United with a 4-0 win at Anfield last week, the gulf in class between the two sides was huge.

It was like this in the 1980s at times, as a brilliant Liverpool team were far too good for United, but the games between the two sides were always keenly contested.

What we saw from United the other night was a set of players willing to throw the towel in without any fight.

Paul Pogba went off early in the game because he didn't fancy it; Marcus Rashford has lost his way badly; and Bruno Fernandes spend more time moaning at referees and play-acting than he does trying to win football matches.

The big issue for me at United is they have signed players with bad attitudes, who want to be stars of the show rather than team players.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have gone for footballers like Diogo Jota, who has fitted into the team and doesn't need red carpets and rose petals at his feet everywhere he goes.

After United confirmed on Thursday they have hired Erik ten Hag as head coach next season, the Dutchman must know he has a huge job on his hands at Old Trafford.

Too many of United's big-money signings have failed and ten Hag (above) needs to have a massive clear-out and start again.

That process will take time and a lot of money and history tells us the United owners don't give managers any breathing space if they are not producing results.

This great club are in a horrible mess on and off the field and Ten Hag needs to be a genius to get them back on track any time soon.
