Borussia Dortmund are ready to sell their England star Jadon Sancho for around £75million this summer and now the primary reason for their eagerness to sell their star man has been revealed.

After Dortmund turned down Manchester United's offers to sign Sancho last summer and insisted they would only do a deal if their €120million price tag was paid, officials at the German club have been hinting since Christmas that they are more willing to be flexible of their sale price this summer.

Now it has been revealed that Dortmund are expecting to report a net loss of around €75million for this financial year, with the club's finances severely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic and the absence of crowds for their home matches.

"Borussia Dortmund's financial performance this 2020/2021 financial year has been severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions on public life imposed in its wake," read a club release on their financial position.

"The original assumptions - such as at least a partial return to fan attendance at the stadium during matches - have failed to materialise, particularly as the result of the third lockdown that has been in place since autumn 2020.

"Borussia Dortmund has nevertheless managed to limit somewhat the negative impact on earnings thanks in particular to its success in the UEFA Champions League and the DFB Cup."

This news will fuel suspicions that Dortmund would be willing to consider selling star striker Erling Haaland this summer, with most of Europe's top clubs being linked with a move for the prolific Norwegian.

Yet Sancho appears to be the asset they are prepared to lose to cover their losses, with the free for the player named in England's provisional squad for this summer's Euro 2020 finals.

Manchester United are again believed to be the front runners to sign Sancho, but there have been increasing reports suggesting Liverpool are also expressing an interest in signing the former Manchester City starlet.

With Dortmund's willingness to do a deal coupled with eagerness from two of England's biggest clubs to complete a deal, this could be a transfer that goes through swiftly as the summer transfer market kicks into gear.

Chelsea have also been strongly linked with a move for Sancho in recent weeks, with Blues boss Thomas Tuchel believed to be a huge admirer of the 21-year-old, who will also fit the youthful age profile of players the west London club are keen to sign this summer.
