Liverpool missed out on a deal to sign Fulham's teenage star Fabio Carvalho in the final hours of the transfer window, but it appears that setback will only be temporary.

With Fulham keen to seal a deal that will secure them a fee for the 19-year-old who will be out of contract this summer, Liverpool officials are keen to finalise an agreement that will suit all parties after the transfer deadline halted the move on Monday.

A source close to negotiations has suggested the deal had been agreed to take Carvalho to Liverpool, yet details over the loan element of the transfer could not be agreed ahead of the deadline.

Fulham wanted Carvalho to remain with them until the end of this season, with Liverpool happy to facilitate that so long as a financial deal could be agreed.

With the loan element of negotiations now off the table, Liverpool are hoping to agree a pre-contract deal with Carvalho and Fulham that will see the player arrive at Liverpool on July 1st.

Relations between Liverpool and Fulham were not negatively affected by the collapse of the Carvalho deal, with Neco Williams' loan move to Craven Cottage confirmation that the two parties are on good terms.

While there is no rush to finalise a deal for Carvalho, Liverpool are keen to get an agreement in place before Borussia Dortmund look to revive their interest in the player.

The Anfield club were keen to avoid a transfer tribunal setting the fee for Carvalho, but we understand there is a basis of an agreement already in place and there is confidence that it can be confirmed in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, new Liverpool signing Luis Diaz is expected to be available to make his debut for the club in next Thursday's Premier League game against Leicester at Anfield.
