It was a transfer exclusive that got the football world talking and it proved to be the most read sports story on sundayworld.com in 2021.

Sunday World reporter Kevin Palmer broke the news that Liverpool were closing in on a deal to sign Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig in mid-March, with confirmation that the Anfield club had sealed the deal coming in early May.

The story can be read HERE.

The story backs up the Sunday World exclusive that Liverpool would sign Virgil van Dijk in January 2018, with the Anfield club confirming the deal to sign Van Dijk a few days later.

Our second most-read sports story of the year was also a story surrounding Liverpool's move for Konate, with Sunday World columnist John Aldridge giving us his verdict on the deal HERE.

Next on our list of most-read stories in 2021 was former TV host Aisling O'Loughlin's bizarre claim that Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen may have collapsed at last summer's Euro 2020 finals as a result of taking a Covid-19 vaccine.

It was later confirmed that Eriksen had not been vaccinated ahead of his heart attack last June and you can see this story HERE.

GAA legend Pat Spillane is always a big hit with sundayworld.com readers and this was our fourth most-read sports story of the year HERE.

Finally, our fifth most-read story of 2021 also came from Kevin Palmer, as he broke the news of Chelsea's transfer wish list for last summer, as he suggested they would try and sign Romelu Lukaku three months before the striker arrived at Stamford Bridge HERE.
