John Aldridge: Former Celtic wonderkid making waves at Anfield could save Liverpool millions

Liverpool will be looking to make some transfer moves in the upcoming window – but they may have already made their best move by signing Ben Doak.
We often suggest Irish and British players are not getting a chance to break through at the top English clubs.
Yet the best talent will always rise to the top – and that certainly appears to be the case with young Doak.
This Scottish youngster only turned 17 last month, but there is a real buzz around him when you speak to people who are working with him on the training ground every day.
Celtic would not have been happy when Liverpool snapped up this gifted attacking star, but their loss is certainly a gain for my old club.
Doak made his first-team debut for Liverpool in the Carabao Cup win against Derby in October.
And I wouldn’t be surprised to see manager Jurgen Klopp hand him more first-team chances with lots of games over Christmas and the FA Cup third-round tie against Wolves also on the horizon.
As far as signings go, I’m not sure we will see too much action from Liverpool in the January window, as the uncertainty over the ownership of the club continues.
They clearly want to be in the mix to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund.
And while that would be a fantastic signing, I always question whether Liverpool can get a deal like that over the line when the clubs owned by mega-rich owners are also involved.
You would hope Bellingham would fancy joining Liverpool over a plastic club like Manchester City, but let’s see if he is driven by money.
