He appeared to be destined to make a big-money switch to Manchester United last summer and as the Jadon Sancho transfer rumours hot up again, new clubs are in the mix for his signature.

Borussia Dortmund stood firm in their determination not to sell Sancho unless their €120million price tag was met by United and when Old Trafford chiefs refused to pay that extravagant fee, the deal collapsed.

Now Dortmund's position on Sancho appears to have shifted, with several statements from club officials in recent months confirming they are winning to allow their England attacking star to make an exit this summer.

'We'll have to speak to Jadon," said Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke last month.

"If there is an exceptional offer, we will discuss it with the player and the agent, as always. Nonetheless, I am very sure that the transfer market will only run to a very limited extent this summer.

"Especially at the very big clubs, you can see what kind of wounds coronavirus has inflicted – and they are not small ones that heal within two weeks."

It has been widely reported in Germany that the €120million asking price from last year will be trimmed down by Dortmund this time, with their need to sell star names likely to become pressing if they fail to qualify for next season's Champions League.

A big win against RB Leipzig last Saturday boosted their hopes of a top four finish in the Bundesliga, but there is still a feeling that Sancho will leave at the end of this season and return to England.

United are again being strongly linked with a move for the 21-year-old, while they are also eager to sign his Dortmund team-mate Erling Haaland.

A deal for both players would appear to be unlikely, with Haaland's expanding price tag making that deal too expensive for most European clubs as they look to emerge from the financial crisis created by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Now reports in Germany suggest Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is eager to sign Sancho, amid suggestions that once of his misfiring front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane or Roberto Firmino may leave to finance a summer spending spree.

Paris Saint-Germain's links with Salah may only be pursued if they sell Kylian Mbappe, but Liverpool have made it clear that they are keen to tie their Egyptian striker down to a new contract despite his hints that he is unsettled at Anfield.

sundayworld.com reported last week that Liverpool have tied up a deal for RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate, with a host of players set to leave Anfield as Klopp eyes up a squad revamp after a woeful run of form in 2021.

We also understand that Chelsea are interested in signing Sancho, with boss Thomas Tuchel a big admirer of his talents and his signing would fit into the Blues model of developing young English players that was kick-started by Frank Lamaprd before he was sacked as the club's manager in January.
