Liverpool goal scoring great John Aldridge believes Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville made one mistake when they picked their team of 2020.

The Sky Sports duo went for Tottenham's Son Heung-min ahead of Liverpool's Sadio Mane in their dream team, but Aldridge believes Liverpool striker Sadio Mane was worthy of getting the nod.

"Even though I can totally see why Son got the nod in a forward line that also featured Harry Kane and Mohamed Salah, my affinity for Liverpool would sway me towards picking Mane," he told us.

"The statistics suggest Son has scored and created more goals than Mane over the last 12 months and that is a good reason to pick a player who has been magnificent for a Spurs team that are nowhere near as good as Liverpool right now.

"Kane and Son have carried Jose Mourinho's side in the opening half of this campaign and their class has shone through, but Mane (below) did the same thing at times last season.

"There were times when Salah and Roberto Firmino were off the boil for Liverpool and Mane stepped up and got the job done, but I don't have too much argument about Son getting into this team."

Aldridge paid tribute to Carragher and Neville, as he backed their endorsement of Wolves defender Conor Coady and suggested he could be a target to bring back to Anfield after he started his career at the club.

"I agreed with their pick of Wolves centre-back Conor Coady in the centre of defence alongside Virgil van Dijk," he added.

"In fact, I'd like to see that partnership become a reality. If Liverpool are looking at signing a defender next month, former Reds academy graduate Coady would be near the top of my list of players they should try and get back to the club.
