Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel has told the club's decision makers that he wants to sign an elite striker this summer, with two names in bold on his wish list.

After winning the Champions League final against Manchester City last Saturday, Tuchel had his first face-to-face meeting with Blues owner Roman Abramovich at the team hotel on Sunday morning.

Transfer targets were under discussion, with Chelsea insiders confirming a marquee striker is now their top target after a season that saw Chelsea miss a host of clear cut chances in the box.

While Timo Werner has struggled in his first season at Chelsea after a big-money move last summer, the Germany striker remains a key part of Tuchel's plans as he looks to build a team capable of challenging for the Premier League title.

Chelsea are looking to off-load a host of fringe players this summer as Tuchel is keen to work with a tight-knit squad of players next season and he believes the addition of either Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku or Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland will give his side the extra dimension they are lacking.

While Haaland is the striker every club in Europe would want to sign this summer, Chelsea believe a move to bring Lukaku back to Chelsea for a second spell at the club may be a more realistic option this summer.

While Inter Milan have vowed to do all they can to keep Lukaku after his goals fired them to the Italian title this season, Chelsea have been given encouragement that the player is ready to make a return to the club he initially joined back in 2011.

Speaking to sundayworld.com last week, Joe Cole suggested Chelsea should push to sign Lukaku, even though he turned down a chance to return to Chelsea when he joined Manchester United in 2017.

"If Lukaku is available for the right price, I think Chelsea would take him," Cole told sundayworld.com at a BT Sport event.

"He's one of the top strikers out there. For me, there is space for Lukaku and Werner at Chelsea because they both offer different things. You want quality players in and around the box because if chances come their way, they will take them."

Lukaku had a brief holiday before joining up with the Belgium squad ahead of the Euro 2020 finals and there are suggestions that his future may not be resolved until his international commitments conclude this summer.
