Jamie Carragher didn't hold back as he presented his case to persuade Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland to join Liverpool this summer - with his put-downs for Manchester's big two raising a few eyebrows.

While Dortmund have suggested time and again that they do not intend to sell Haaland this summer, the Norway striker is still being linked with a big-money move to Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool, Chelsea or either Manchester club.

In his role as a CBS analyst alongside former Manchester City defender Micah Richards and Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel, Carragher presented a passionate argument for Haaland to make the move to Anfield and he was less than complimentary about the merits of move to City or United.

With the mood in the studio more than a little jovial, Carragher suggested Haaland is perfectly suited to Jurgen Klopp's brand of football at Liverpool.

"Haaland should come to Liverpool because it is his type of football, heavy metal football," said Carragher. "He relies on his pace and his power and that is the type of football Liverpool play.

"Who would not want to play in front of The Kop? Name me a better stadium for Champions League nights than Anfield? One of the iconic clubs in world football, six time European champions."

Richards was not impressed by Carragher's suggestions that Haaland would play Champions League football at Liverpool next season as Klopp's side are struggling to qualify for Europe's elite competition after their quarter-final exit against Real Madrid.

It was left to the dignified Schmeichel to offer up a calm and composed statement on why Haaland should link up with his old Molde manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford, with Carragher not impressed by that either case as he suggested City were a "fake club" fueled by cash from their wealthy owners.

Liverpool legend Carragher then poured some scorn on Manchester United credentials, as the humour in the studio descended into a scene that used to be seen in bars as football lovers about the game before those scenes were halted by the pandemic.

This discussion made for seven minutes of entertaining TV, with Carragher clearly winning the battle of the quips and you can watch the full exchange here:
