Manchester City have run away with this season's Premier League title race, but it doesn't look like a member of Pep Guardiola's champions-elect will be crowned as the PFA Player of the Year.

While Ilkay Gundogan has good claims to win the award after a fine season in City colours, Guardiola's side have served up team consistency rather than individual brilliance over the course of the campaign.

That has opened the door for alternative candidates to emerged in the annual PFA poll, with players in all four divisions of England's professional leagues currently submitting their nominations.

Rumours start to swirl at this time of the year over how that vote is progressing and Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes is emerging as the strong favourite.

Fernandes has scored 23 goals in all competitions for United this season, yet ten of those have come from the penalty spot and he has not scored from open play in his last nine appearances for United.

Manchester City defender Ruben Dias is also a contender for the PFA prize, with Tottenham striker Harry Kane also in the mix for the award.

Man City's Kevin De Bruyne is the reigning PFA Player of the Year, but the Belgian forward is not believed to be a contender to reclaim the prize after an injury-hit season.

The coronation of the PFA Player of the Year will be made in April, with Fernandes vying to be the first Manchester United player to win the award since Wayne Rooney in 2010.
