Chelsea are preparing to make a final push to sign their top defensive target in this transfer window, with deals to off-load fringe players ongoing before they make their final push to sign Sevilla's Jules Kounde.

The reigning European champions are looking to sign players with an eye on the future, as they aim to lower the age of their current squad and Kounde fits that criteria.

Yet the club are keen to ensure they do not overspend in this transfer window and after recouping around £100million from player sales and completed the club record £97.5million signing of Romelu Lukaku, the final piece of manager Thomas Tuchel's transfer jigsaw is now set to fall into place.

Kounde is reported to have agreed personal terms on a move to Chelsea, but the two clubs have yet to agree a fee for the 22-year-old France international.

The move will only go through if Chelsea seal transfer for players considered to be surplus to requirement by Tuchel, with Kurt Zouma in talks over a move to West Ham.

There have been suggestions that Zouma is reluctant to leave Chelsea unless he receives a substantial pay-rise at West Ham and that could be a stumbling block to the deal.

When asked about his interest in Zouma after West Ham's 4-1 win against Leicester, Hammers boss David Moyes stated: "I will never talk about players from other clubs.

"I think I need to add to the squad if I can but I can't guarantee anything just because of the way the window is but I do feel as if I need to add to it, we probably don't have enough depth but trying to get players who are going to give us another level is not easy."

Respected reporter Fabrizio Romano has revealed that AC Milan are close to completing a deal to sign Chelsea's Tiemoue Bakayoko and if they can also finalise a move for Zouma, they could sign Kounde with a net transfer on profits for this transfer window.
