Chelsea have already started to make their moves ahead of this summer's transfer window and a source close to the club has told sundayworld.com that owner Roman Abramovich is set to splash the cash this summer - with England star Jadon Sancho emerging as a top target.

Abramovich issued rare public comments as he pulled Chelsea out of the controversial European Super League plan a few hours after it was announced last month, with Sunday World sources revealing the Blues' Russian owner was never keen to be part of the breakaway league.

The primary reason why Chelsea agreed to be one of the 12 founding members of the Super League was a fear that the club could be left behind if they were not part of the plan, but they now are convinced that they are in prime position to make some statements in the transfer market as they hold a financial advantage over their rivals.

Stamford Bridge chiefs are working on a revamped transfer strategy that they believe will put them in pole position to challenge Manchester City for next season's Premier League title.

Chelsea are looking to target THREE key areas in their team, with a central defender, a winger and a centre forward all believe to have been identified as key areas by manager Thomas Tuchel.

The Blues spent more £200million in last summer's transfer window to sign keeper Edouard Mendy and the attacking trio of Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz and Timo Werner.

Yet much of that investment was already in the club kitty, with the sale of Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata bolstering the club's spending power last summer without the need for additional investment from Abramovich.

That could changed this summer and while Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland is seen as Abramovich's dream signing, Chelsea insiders have told sundayworld.com that a deal for the Norway striker to move to Stamford Bridge will be 'difficult' this summer, even though the Blues could out-bid their rivals for the most wanted forward in the game.

There have been suggestions that Werner could be used as a make-weight in a deal for Haaland, but there is a feeling that the striker and his agent could hold out for a move to Real Madrid or Bayern Munich in the summer of 2002.

In addition, Haaland has indicated that Chelsea is not his first choice club and that may force the club to switch their focus to his Dortmund team-mate Sancho, who is keen to return to England this summer in a deal that will be worth around £75million.

Dortmund officials have confirmed on numerous occasions in recent months that they will consider a deal to sell Sancho, after they rejected Manchester United's advances for the former Manchester City youngster.

Reports in Germany suggest Liverpool are also in the mix to sign Sancho, but Chelsea are confident they can offer a better financial package to the player and they may also be able to guarantee Champions League football that may be lacking at Liverpool next season.

Former Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku is also emerging as a leading transfer target after his sparkling season of form fired Inter Milan to the Serie A title, while Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero is viewed as a viable transfer option if first choice targets like Haaland are out of reach.

Boss Tuchel has recommended some potential targets for the central defensive position, with Paris Saint-Germain's Brazilian star Marquinhos on that list having worked with the current Chelsea boss last season.

What appears to be clear is that Chelsea believe they have the financial firepower to sign some of the game's top stars in the summer when many of their rivals are still battling to overcome the financial impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In addition, we are told that Abramovich is full re-engaged with the Chelsea project after some uncertainty over his commitment to the club in recent years, with Tuchel's instant impact as manager convincing him this is the moment to start spending big once again.
