Celtic are finally about to confirm the appointment of Eddie Howe as their new manager, after the former Bournemouth boss rejected approaches from English clubs in favour of a move to Scotland.

Celtic have been operating without a permanent manager since Neil Lennon's departure in late February, with Roy Keane among the names mentioned as potential candidates to fill the vacancy.

Yet Howe has long been viewed as Celtic's first choice option and in a summer when there are set to be changes at all levels of the club, he will work with new Parkhead CEO Dominic McKay as they plot the fight back against Steven Gerrard's Rangers.

Celtic's bid to win a 10th successive Scottish Premiership title came to an end this season as they were comprehensively routed by their Old Firm rivals, with Howe now charged with the task of turning the tide back to the green half of Glasgow.

Howe has been approached by several English clubs in recent months and sundayworld.com understands he turned down an offer to take over at Sheffield United following the exit of Chris Wilder.

He has also been linked with a move to replace Roy Hodgson at Crystal Palace, but Celtic is the job he has been eyeing up for some time and it seems he is about to land the role.

Reports in Scotland suggest confirmation of his appointment is imminent, with Howe already looking to piece together backroom staff that will include members of the coaching team he worked with during his time at Bournemouth.
