Borussia Dortmund have dropped their asking price for Jadon Sancho, after refusing to sell their England star to Manchester United last summer.

United had agreed terms with the player and his adviser over a move, but Dortmund's refusal to sell for less than €120million meant Sancho remained in Germany for another season.

Now there are reports in Germany that Dortmund may be prepared to accept a €90million offer for Sancho, as they may be in a position where there need to sell the player this summer.

While he has not been on top form throughout this Bundesliga campaign, he has been in good form of late and speculation is mounting that Dortmund are ready to sell their star man.

Dortmund have struggled to shine in the Bundesliga this season, despite boasting a stunning array of youthful talent that also includes in-demand striker Erling Haaland, who has been linked with moves to Liverpool and Real Madrid in recent months.

Now Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has admitted players will have to be sold if his club fail to qualify for next season's Champions League, with a recent slump in form putting their hopes of a top four finish in the Bundesliga in jeopardy.

While Watzke has insisted Norway striker Haaland will not be for sale, it is clear that clubs across Europe will need to cut the losses after 12 months that has seen revenue streams battered by the Covid-19 pandemic.

"If the income from the Champions League is no longer there, you can no longer afford a squad of this size," he confirmed. "Then you have to use the red pencil to cut down the squad."

He was also quoted as suggested he was "more than certain" Sancho would leave the club at the end of next season, but there may also be interest in his talents from Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel.

United are still believed to be interested in Sancho, but Chelsea are now emerging as strong contenders to sign both Sancho and Haaland, if Dortmund decide to sell both this summer.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has confirmed that he is ready to outspend his Premier League rivals to bring the game's top talent to Chelsea after a big transfer splurge last summer.

Now he may be tempted to flex his financial muscle one more for Sancho and Haaland, in a summer when United may be handicapped financially by the impact of the Covid-19 crisis.
