Irish punter Ryan Callahan was gutted over the weekend as Arsenal's 1-1 draw with Burnley meant his 21-leg football accumulator came up agonizingly short - but bookie Paddy Power have paid out on it despite his near miss.

Ryan €5 bet involved matches in all corners of Europe and would have returned returned €11,400 had Arsenal won at Burnley, only for a crazy defensive error from Gunners midfielder Granit Xhaka to ruin his dream, only for Paddy Power to make the call to pay Ryan out in full given his near-miss.

Lucky punter Ryan couldn't believe his luck when Paddy Power confirmed they would pay him the money after a few days of lamenting his misfortune.

"The bet was something small to spice up my Saturday," he told Off The Ball. "Looking back on the Arsenal match again it was sore viewing. I couldn't believe it when the the VAR decision went against me. It definitely took a few days to get over it."

Spokesperson Paddy Power said: "It was an unbelievable bet that deserved more than a dodgy ref call and some sloppy Arsenal finishing. Granit Xhaka's woeful mistake cost Mikel Arteta's side three points, but we couldn't let it cost Ryan more than €11k."

There is not too much to smile about at the moment in this crazy world, but a story like this has to sprinkle a little joy into your heart.
