Barcelona are reportedly preparing a fresh move to sign Liverpool's Gini Wijnaldum in the January transfer window, after boss Ronald Koeman confirmed publicly that he wanted to sign the Dutch midfielder.

The Sunday World revealed in July that Barcelona has made moves to sign Wijnaldum, who is in the final year of his contract at Liverpool and looks unlikely to sign an extension.

Liverpool's move to sign Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich was initially linked with the club's expectation that Wijnaldum would leave, but Barcelona failed to off-load enough players to stay within the strict financial constraints currently placed on Spainish club's by La Liga chiefs.

It meant a deal to sign Memphis Depay from Lyon fell through despite terms being agreed with the French club and the Dutch midfielder, but the latest reports in Spain suggest both deals for Delay and Wijnaldum could be revived in the January window as he confirmed both players were "on the list" in an interview earlier this week.

Barcelona are again expected to try and off-load big-earner Ousmane Dembélé in the January transfer window after talk over a potential move to Manchester United fell through in the final days of the transfer window.

Dembélé's exit would free up space on the Barcelona wage bill for Depay and possibly Wijnaldum as well, with Liverpool likely to be open to offers for a player they could lose on a free transfer next summer.
