Sam Bennett won today’s sixth stage of the Tour of the UAE in Dubai with another sizzling sprint at the Palm Jumeriah in Dubai.

Bennett won his second stage of the race ahead of Elia Viviani of Italy and Pascal Ackermann of Germany after another run across the desert with crosswinds a big issue in the race.

The 30-year-old Irishman will now try for another win in Saturday’s flat finale to the UAE tour and then begin his preparations for next month’s Milan-San Remo classic, for which he will start as one of the big favourites.

“We really wanted to win another stage here,” added Bennett as he savoured the 51st professional win of his career.

“All I had to do was follow the guys. With the straight run in and the crosswind, it was messy, with a lot of guys changing lanes, but Michael [Mørkøv] brought me to the perfect position with 150m to go and I just went as fast as I could from there. We'll go for it again tomorrow."
