Tennis legend Roger Federer gave Irish fans Jamie Duff and Ollie White the shock of their lives as he responded to their Instagram plea to take him on in a tennis match.

Jamie and Ollie didn't expect to hear back from the 20-time Grand Slam champion when they tagged him into their Instagram post that showed them playing tennis (of sorts!) on their local court.

Federer was impressed with their efforts and after attempting to reach out to the Swiss maestro for a second time, he sent back a voice message encouraging the two lads to get in touch with his agent to set up a dream match.

"Hey guys, what's going on," began Federer. "I loved the video. The tennis was looking good, maybe a little bit of work needed with the footwork. We should do something with my charity. Send your email to my agent and we will sort something out."

The idea of Federer coming to Ireland to play DCU students Jamie and Ollie has set tongues wagging, with Federer's agent in conversation with his agent to try and set up the improbable match.

Paddy Power have wasted little time in getting some odds drawn up on Jamie and Ollie's possible match-up with the greatest tennis player of all-time and this is a match we would all like to see at some point in 2021.
