Waterford hurler Iarlaith Daly looks set to miss the county’s trip to Galway on the weekend after next for their fourth round Allianz Division 1B game after being hit with a proposed one-match ban.

The Déise centre-back, who has grown in prominence since replacing the injured Tadhg de Búrca in last year’s All-Ireland final against Limerick, has been charged with a category-three offence, kicking with minimal force, during an altercation at the end of their win over Limerick in Walsh Park.

Limerick’s Kyle Hayes was sent-off by Paud O’Dwyer for his part in the altercation, but the referee did not see Daly’s specific involvement that has drawn the attention of the Central Competition Controls Committee (CCCC), and was clear on TV footage.

Daly has a choice to accept the proposed ban or seek a hearing.

O’Dwyer also sent off Séamus Flanagan, and both he and Hayes have had one-match bans proposed.

Last week, Limerick defender Diarmaid Byrnes accepted a one-match ban for an incident at the end of the Galway game that saw him lash out at Jason Flynn, forcing him to miss Sunday’s defeat.
