Kerry's David Clifford has no regrets about turning down several offers to play Aussie rules

Clifford was coveted by AFL clubs on the back of his sensational exploits with the Kerry minors in 2016 and ’17, but the three-time All-Star stayed loyal to the Kingdom cause.

“Not particularly,” Clifford said when asked if he had any regrets about not making the switch to AFL. “Maybe when you’re stuck into an assignment in college, that is the only time. I’m happy enough with my decision.”

One player who was lost to the AFL, however, is Mark O’Connor – with the 2015 All-Ireland-winning minor captain making a name for himself with the Geelong Cats. Clifford has never played for Kerry alongside the Dingle native, but he hopes to some day.

“He’s flying it. The Dingle lads are in constant contact with him. He’s doing an unbelievable job in fairness to him and it’d be brilliant (to play with him), but I don’t know,” said Clifford.
