Olympic champion Kellie Harrington has made a triumphant return to the ring.

At the Strandja International tournament in Sofia, the Tokyo lightweight gold medallist achieved a unanimous 5-0 (30-27, 30-27, 30-27, 30-27, 30-28) win over fellow Olympian Agnes Alexiusson from Sweden.

The Swede was beaten in the preliminary round of the Olympic tournament in Japan but won a bronze medal at the European Games in Minsk in 2019.

But she was no match for the Dubliner who was returning to action for the first time since the Olympic final last August.

Elsewhere there were mixed fortunes for the Irish squad in Bulgaria.

Light heavyweight Kelyn Cassidy was beaten on a unanimous decision by Finland’s Nystedt Nikita but Tokyo Olympian Michaela Walsh together with Carly Naul and Caitlin Fryers advanced to the next round.

Middleweight Aoife O’Rourke who also competed in the Tokyo Games will be in action later today together with Christina Desmond, Adam Hession, and JP Hale.
