JAKE PAUL has challenged Conor McGregor to a boxing showdown in Ireland.

I want to fight McGregor,” declared the YouTube and social media star.

“I will fight him in a boxing ring in Ireland,” said Paul who has an unbeaten 5-0 record in professional boxing.

Paul issued the challenge to the former MMA World champion at the London press conference for the World title showdown between Ireland’s Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano which he is co-promoting with Matchroom.

He denied issuing the challenge because he was being interviewed by Irish journalists.

“This is partially how the journey (in boxing) started. I made up my mind that I was going to get a fight with McGregor and win it and that is what motivated me to jump into this boxing career.

The pair have already clashed on social media, but behind all the bravo the American is acutely aware of how financial lucrative a showdown with McGregor could be.

The infamous so-called Money Fight between five-division world undefeated boxing champion Floyd Mayweather and the then MMA champion McGregor in Las Vegas in August 2017 was the second highest pay-per-view event in history.

Mayweather was reported to have grossed $280m from the fight with McGregor earning $130 million.

Even though Paul has beaten nobody of note in boxing he is capable of generating a new audience for the sport and likes to describe himself as the ‘disrupter’.

“I am very passionate about boxing. It consumes my life. YouTube was something I liked but I didn’t necessarily love it. But to me boxing is everything.

“Boxing is way more lawless (than YouTube) and that’s the reason I love it. There is way more room to innovative right now and to disrupt. The internet culture and social medial is sort of stagnant and dying as a matter of fact, “ said Logan who sported a base cap with the slogan ‘Make Boxing Great Again’ at the press conference.

He is credited with securing a first ever million-dollar purse for Amanda Serrano for her fight for her showdown against Taylor who will probably earn in excess of $2m for the clash in Madison Square Garden on April 30.

“I want to change the way fights are made,” declared the 25-year old.

“I want to fight all over the world. I want to fight on a cruise ship; I want to fight on the top of skyscrapers I want to fight anywhere in the world where you can put a boxing ring.”

Paul’s brother Logan fought Floyd Mayweather in an exhibition last June in Florida.

Mayweather dominated the contest, but no winner was declared.

But the relationship between the Logans and Mayweather has since scoured with Logan Paul claiming that the boxing icon owes him money.

Yesterday Jake suggested it was embarrassing that who he described as Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather had not paid up.

Last May Jake started a mass brawl with Mayweather after stealing his hat. He insisted the showdown was real and not just staged to generate publicity.
