Conor McGregor’s arch-rival Nate Diaz has slammed the Dubliner for suggesting his boxing is piss by claiming he turned the Notorious into “a wrestler”.

The American retaliated after McGregor had earlier compared Nate’s style unfavourably to his brother Nick, following the older Diaz’s long-awaited return to the Octagon at UFC 266.

Nick was unsuccessful in his rematch with Robbie Lawler and opted not to continue after getting hurt in the third round as he competed for the first time in more than six years.

But McGregor was impressed with what saw from the 38-year-old - although he couldn't resist a dig at his kid brother Nate, having twice fought the younger Diaz with a win apiece.

McGregor tweeted: "Nick/Rob was a good fight. The spin kick at the start gave the ground on Nick but he was veteran composed and was peppering lovely shots in.

"He just ate some big body shots and there was more coming Robbie was strong to the body it was veteran work all round. I enjoyed thoroughly.”

He added: “Can see the clear difference between the two brothers after last night. Balance, composure. Another level the big bro is on to you. I made you.

But then he couldn’t resist a further dig at his former opponent.

"Nate your boxing is piss compare to nicks," the Notorious tweeted. "We been fed garbage with your sloppy shots the last few years.”

A furious Nate took his time to respond but when he did he unleashed both barrels.

“@TheNotoriousMMA My boxing’s piss? I banked on ur face, turned u into a wrestler, and then chocked u bitch in reality your whole country and belongings are mine.

“plus I made that fight and u took the bait. then I made masvidals bitchasss. don’t forget I make this whole shit spin,” Diaz wrote on social media.

McGregor fought Nate Diaz twice in 2016, winning by majority decision in the rematch to avenge a submission defeat in their first.

Diaz has not fought since UFC 263 where he suffered a decision loss to Leon Edwards. It was his first fight since he suffered a TKO loss to Jorge Masvidal at UFC 244.

He has hinted at a return in December. McGregor, meanwhile, is currently recovering from his broken leg he suffered against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.

Prior to that, he was knocked out by Poirier at UFC 257 in January which was his first fight in over a year.

It’s uncertain who he will fight when he returns, but a grudge match with Nate Diaz could be on the cards.
