Anthony Joshua turned in his best performance in some time to knock-out Kubrat Pulev and retain his his IBO, WBA, IBF and WBO World Heavyweight titles.

Fighting in front of 1,000 at the Wembley Arena, Joshua showed flashes of brilliance as he nearly ended the fight in an explosive third round, before he finished off the job in the ninth.

Brutal uppercuts got the job done for Joshua and the next natural step for the heavyweight champ appears to be a unification showdown against fellow Brit Tyson Fury.

Yet Joshua appeared to be reluctant to call-out his rival after the fight, as he looked ahead to what we all hope is a more normal 2021.

"I'm up for anything. Who wants to see Anthony Joshua box Tyson Fury in 2021? I started this game in 2013 and I've been chasing the belts ever since," said Joshua.

"Whoever has got the belt, I would love to compete with them. If that is Tyson Fury then let it be Tyson Fury."

Promoter Eddie Hearn was a little more forthright, as he suggested Joshua v Fury has to be next on the agenda.

"Starting from tomorrow, we make the Tyson Fury fight straight away," declared Hearn. "It's the only fight to be made in boxing. It is the biggest fight in British boxing history.

"I know he (Joshua) wants it, He is the best heavyweight in the world, I promise you. He'll break him down, he'll knock him out."

Joshua dominated throughout and a stunning combination finally saw off the valiant efforts of the challenger, who had been down three times before at the fourth time of asking could not make the count.

It meant Joshua retained his WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO belts and more importantly stays on track for a twin-fight with Fury in 2021.

A ‘Battle of Britain’ could sell out across the continent and plans for it to be hosted at Wembley will depend on how many fans are able to attend, with only 1,000 spectators inside the SSE Arena due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Pulev had talked the talk in the build-up to this fight and insisted he had been waiting for a second chance at Joshua after he was forced to pull out of a 2017 meeting due to a shoulder injury.

But after putting the challenger down twice in the third, Joshua did the same again in the ninth and the final knockout blow proved too much for the 39-year-old to come back from.
