Tom ‘Swanky’ Sweeney hit the jackpot

Our good friend Tom ‘Swanky’ Sweeney of Mary Ann’s Bar Macroom, Co. Cork, hit the jackpot last week while fly-fishing Lough Mask with pal Mike Hegarty of Kerry.

Swanky latched onto a huge trout of 5.44kg on his own version of the olive muddler fly. The lads are fishing out of Clonbur with the Burke family for years and this is Swanky’s best trout to date on the fly from Mask. Check it out www.burkes-clonbur.com or give Thomas Burke a bell on 087-9099593.

The Corrib is also producing cracking fish as the mayfly season gets into full swing. Neil Spellacy of Moycullen produced a beauty of 3lbs on the wet fly and IFI’s very own Kevin Crowley boated a cracker of 6lbs, also on the wet mayfly. We are told IFI officers are out daily on routine checks on both size limit and bag limits.

Meanwhile, Padraig Corcoran, of Lecarrow Co. Roscommon on the shores of Lough Ree, has opened up boat hire, bike hire and guided boat trips on this enchanted lake. Padraig can be contacted on 087-7168844 or www.loughreeboathire.ie
