Una Healy’s ex-husband Ben Foden will try his hand at figure skating on Dancing on Ice next year.

The rugby player, who is dad to kids Aoife (nine) and Tadhg (six) with the Irish singer, will swap out the pitch for the rink when the latest series of the hit ITV competition show begins airing in January 2022.

Commenting on the news, Ben said: “I used to skate a little when I was a kid.

“I'd go to ice discos when I was 15, 16 [years old] and you’d always see these kids that could do pirouettes that had a proper dancing background.

“I like the idea of learning a new sport and a new skill. I'm quite competitive as well so I like the challenge of competing against others doing something that I'm not necessarily good at!

Also confirmed to take part in the show is Love Island’s Liberty Poole, who stole the hearts of both Britain and Ireland this summer when she made the heartbreaking decision to leave the Mallorcan villa days before the final after calling it quits with Jake Cornish.

The 22-year-old is no stranger to the rink and said she’s delighted to learn some new moves on the show.

“I grew up watching Dancing on Ice and my mum actually used to be a figure skater,” Liberty said.

“I ice skate as a hobby sometimes so I can get around the rink but I can't do any tricks, no pirouetting or anything, so I'm really looking forward to pushing myself and learning as much as I possibly can. Not just skating around the ice but actually dancing on ice. Bring it on!”

Other stars lined up to compete on Dancing on Ice are S Club 7’s Rachel Stevens, Coronation Street legend Sally Dynevor, professional dancer Regan Gascoigne, Bez from Happy Mondays, former Strictly Come Dancing professional Brendan Cole, and Paralympic athlete Stef Reid.
