Hollywood tales Ryan Tubridy lands interview with Matthew McConaughey for Late Late Show
HOLLYWOOD hunk Matthew McConaughy will lead the line-up for this Friday's Late Late Show.
The Oscar-winning actor has recorded an extended interview with host Ryan Tubridy, which will provide a deep dive into his illustrious career.
McConaughy had a complete career revival and went from playing a shirtless romantic comedy star in the '90s to the becoming the biggest box-office draw in Hollywood.
The actor speaks in detail about his complete career "un-branding" which saw him move from a rom-com actor to becoming an Oscar-winner for his role in Dallas Buyers Club in 2013.
"It was very intentional," he tells Tubs.
"I was the rom-com guy, but that became all I was getting offered. I was also in the tabloids every week as the shirtless guy on the beach...
"I was looking for something that scared me a little bit, roles that challenged me and scared me in my boots.
“Nobody was sending me those offers.
“I decided to stop doing what I was doing, I said 'no' to rom-coms.
“After about 20 months after zero works, zero offers, wondering if I would ever work again in the industry, I became a new idea."
McConaughey also lifts the lid on his unconventional Texan upbringing including his parents' “tumultuous relationship” and his obscure recollection of his father's death.
"It was a very passionate relationship, it was a rocky relationship, married three times, divorced twice.
"It was violent at times, but it was always surrounded by how much they loved each other.
“You're married three times, divorced twice, that's a good example of can't live with you can't live without you..."
“My dad always said to his sons 'boys, when I go, I'm going to be making love to your mother.'
“I get a call, August 17th, 1993, and it's my Mom and she said 'your dad died this morning'.
“I said 'how?', she said 'well he woke up at six o'clock, felt a little frisky, and as soon as he climaxed, he had a heart attack and died."
"Goddamit Mom, I didn't think anyone in the world could have killed him except you. He called the shot and died while making love to Mom, what a way to go."
