Talk of the Ton Nicola Coughlan teases what's in store for highly anticipated Bridgerton Season 2
The steamy period drama will be returning to Netflix on March 25th for its highly anticipated second season
Nicola Coughlan has teased what her character will get up to in the upcoming season of Bridgerton.
The steamy period drama will be returning to Netflix on March 25th for its highly anticipated second season.
And Nicola Coughlan, whose character Penelope Featherington was unveiled as the ton gossip Lady Whistledown in Season 1, has hinted at what’s in store this time around.
Speaking on Claudia Winkleman’s BBC Radio 2 show, the Galway native said: “[After] that reveal at the end of series one, you very much get to see behind the curtain in series two.”
“We see how she gets away with the things that she gets away with. And for me, it was so much fun because in series one she’s a shy, retiring wallflower, and then series two you go, ‘Oh, she’s got all this new stuff going on’, and it was extremely fun to film.”
Bridgerton became one of Netflix’s biggest shows ever when it was first released on the streaming service on Christmas Day 2020, and fans have been eagerly awaiting their chance to get their fix from Lady Whistledown ever since.
Nicola admitted that she had no idea the show would become so popular when she signed on to play socialite Penelope.
“You just really hope that anyone will watch it and like it and you’ll be happy with that,” she said.
“There’s sort of insane numbers of people, like, 82 million people in the first month is not something that you can ever wish for or get your head around.

“It’s absolutely bonkers how many people sort of fell in love with it. It’s amazing.”
Bridgerton’s first season followed debutante Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and her quest to find a suitor, leading her into the arms of Simon, the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page) as their secret romance unfolded.
The upcoming season, however, will focus on Daphne’s Viscount brother Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and his attempts to charm newcomer Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley).
