Netflix have officially introduced new characters to Bridgerton with some first look photos from Season 2.

The photos, which show newcomers Simone Ashley and Charithra Chandran in character as Kate and Edwina Sharma for the first time, were released following Netflix’s TUDUM fan event across the weekend.

The studio also debuted an exclusive clip from the highly anticipated second season, which will follow Viscount Anthony Bridgerton in his quest for love with Kate Sharma, at the event.

Season two of the raunchy period drama will air sometime in 2022, and Sex Edcuation star Simone Ashley gushed that she was “really excited” and “really proud” to join the cast this time around.

Speaking at a panel discussion at TUDUM, the 26-year-old said: ““We’ve spoken about how amazing the show is and the storyline and how inclusive it is, but just as a cast and crew it’s just a bunch of really genuinely kind, lovely, down-to-earth people who are all so supportive of one another.

“It was weird. It can be quite scary coming into a show that’s been established and it’s season two. It is quite like going to the school canteen like, ‘Where am I going to sit?’ But I just felt very welcomed.”

Fellow newbie Charithra Chandran, who is Simone’s onscreen little sister, added that playing a Regency character as a British Indian woman has been an unbelievable experience.

She said: “I never really thought it would happen because my mum and I, we love Jane Austen novels and the Regency period, and my mum is obsessed with Colin Firth in Pride and Prejudice and Gwyneth Paltrow in Emma, and I just never ever thought it would happen.

“I never imagined that someone who looked like me would be in those outfits in a show like that. And for it to happen, I just couldn’t believe it.”
