Mystery continues to surround the decision to cancel last night's episode of First Dates Ireland.

Viewers were left wondering what was going on when they tuned into their favourite show only to find a repeat in place of the expected season finale.

Today, RTE chiefs said the programme was pulled due to "operational difficulties”.

Some of them twigged it was a repeat when they noticed the restaurant-goers were lacking face masks and social distancing measures.

“Was this episode of #FirstDatesIRL taped pre-COVID and, if so, it makes the contestants look really bad for all just ignoring social distancing after they spent the whole series making a big deal about it,” one person tweeted.

Another added: “Only after realising it's a repeat cos they're not wearing masks #doh #FirstDatesIRL”

The broadcaster was supposed to air the final episode of First Dates Ireland last night at 9.30pm but replaced the final episode of this series with a rerun from an earlier season.

The rerun was shown instead due to “operational difficulties”.

In a statement, the broadcaster said: "Due to operational difficulties, tonight’s episode of First Dates will not be shown. It will be rescheduled for a later date. Apologies for any inconvenience. Tonight’s episode will be a repeat."

Meanwhile, First Dates Ireland has opened applications for singletons looking for love.

They can be in with a chance of appearing on the next season of the popular reality show.

But for those looking to avoid the limelight but still on the market, you can still apply to be a background diner.

This week we revealed how a bikini model who appears on RTE's First Dates was urging young women to avoid the Only Fans site after she claims she suffered "horrendous abuse" on it.

Glamorous Dubliner Jodie Felloni certainly catches the eye of her TV date Ronan O'Mahony with her buxom figure.

"I'm double D across the chest and a 25-inch waist, so I'd be quite hourglass," says make-up artist Jodie (32), from Fairview.

Jodie says she had breast augmentation after leaving school.

"I have breast implants, I got them when I was 19," she confirms. "My babies are about 14 or 15 now. I got them when I was straight out of school.

"They were quite expensive but I was quite picky. I got them for a little bit of confidence. I was always one of those girls who wore two bras on a night out. I didn't have a huge chip on my shoulder about it, but it was something I wanted.

"When I went into my first job and I had a bit of extra money, I decided to treat myself.

"At first I regretted it because the pain is indescribable. I don't think anybody really talks about the pain, it was very intense for a few weeks and uncomfortable for a few months, but I'm obviously happy about it now."
