Fans of Love Island Australia have noticed that Eoghan McDermott is absent from the latest teaser trailer.

The former RTÉ star has acted as narrator on the Aussie adaptation of Love Island (a role spearheaded Iain Stirling on the UK version) but as Series 3 approaches, Eoghan is nowhere to be seen.

The trailer for the third season was released on Sunday, shortly after Millie Court and Liam Reardon finished off their summer of love by being crowned the winners of the 2021 UK series.

Host Sophie Monk appears in the latest trailer dressed as a flute-playing mermaid luring prospective Islanders to the Australian villa, announcing: “Follow me, you beautiful, sexy singles! Dive in – there's plenty of fish in this sea.

“Love Island is in our own backyard. Australia - where it's beautiful one day, perfect the next.”

The official Love Island Australia account added: “Love Island Straya. Follow @SophieMonk down under as she drops a fresh batch of hot sexy singles into Love Island Australia! Coming soon to Channel 9.”

However, while The Monk seems to be returning as host for the third time, McDermott fails to make an appearance in the trailer at all.

Australia’s Nine Network and ITV Studios Australia have been contacted for comment but have not yet confirmed whether McDermott will be reprising his role or not.

It comes after RTÉ confirmed in March that the 38-year-old would not be returning as the presenter of the 2fm Breakfast Show due to “personal reasons.”

Before the confirmation, McDermott had taken an unexpected two weeks of annual leave.

He had worked on the station since 2014 and co-presented the 2fm Breakfast Show with Doireann Garrihy for two years.

The show has been hosted by Garrihy, Donncha O'Callaghan, and Carl Mullan since May.
