The first images of Lady Gaga performing Smelly Cat with Phoebe Buffay have emerged - with the pop siren looking like a dead ringer for everyone’s kookiest Friend.

Donning a knitted cardigan and a Phoebe-style hairdo, Gaga was clearly paying homage to the famous character as she performed the iconic song with Friends actress Lisa Kudrow. The images were released as Friends: The Reunion makes its Irish debut on Sky One and streaming service Now TV.

On the show, Phoebe begins performing the song alone before being joined by Gaga, who tells her: “I love Smelly Cat. It’s one of my favourite songs.” The singer also thanks Kudrow for “being the person for all of us on Friends that was the different one, or the one that was really herself”.

Smelly Cat was first performed on season two of Friends 26 years ago in an episode entitled The One With the Baby on the Bus. It went on to become one of the most popular running gags in the series, featuring in numerous storylines.

All six cast members have been paid a rumoured $2.5 million to film the two-hour-long show. Other stars from the show joining the reunion include Maggie Wheeler who played Janice, Elliot Gould and James Michael Tyler, better known as Gunther.
