HBO has released the first trailer for the new Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon.

The show, which was announced two years ago, will premiere sometime next year and is based on George R. R. Martin’s book Fire and Blood.

The book is set two hundred years before the events of the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, which the Game of Thrones series was based on.

Starring The Crown’s Matt Smith, as well as Paddy Considine and Emma D'Arcy, the plot follows the dragon-riding Targaryen family, Daenerys Targaryen’s ancestors, during their time on the Iron Throne.

The new drama will see Considine star as King Viserys I Targaryen, King of the Seven Kingdoms, and Smith will play his younger brother Prince Daemon Targaryen.

D'Arcy stars as Viserys’ firstborn daughter Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Olivia Cooke stars as Lady Alicent Hightower in the new series.

HBO showrunners have also revealed that Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Savannah Steyn, Wil Johnson, John Macmillan, and Theo Nate have also joined the cast as members of the Velaryon family.

The highly anticipated trailer for House of The Dragon was unveiled today as part of a promo event for HBO Max’s rollout in Europe later this month.

The minute-long clip racked up a whopping two million views within the first 3 hours of its release.

No specific date has been set for the series, but HBO promises that it will hit screens sometime next year.
