Since the soap returned in September following a break in production as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, fans of Fair City have been hit with nostalgic storylines.
First to return to the fictional suburb was Donal Maher who made an explosive comeback and told former business partner Paul Brennan that he was dying.
Then on Sunday night Ali Foley arrived on set and, for the next three weeks, plans on turning up the heat in McCoys.
And Doireann Ni Chorragáin, who plays Ali in the hit series, told the Sunday World that she is back for true love.
“I am back, in a big way for three weeks, and yes there is an exit and it is a bit heart-wrenching for Dean.
“I feel like they get on and I feel that this is her most genuine relationship since Lorcan (who died tragically).
“And it is hard and fast and Ali was always impetuous and Dean is a good-looking boy with a lot of heart himself and it is fun.
“But everyone has experienced this in lockdown, it is the carrot of something new and different and exciting and it is life and adventure with someone new.
“And it is amazing but then real-life sort of dawns on her after a week or two, and things change.
“It kind of feels like a lockdown romance but there is nothing disingenuous about their feelings.”
Fans will remember Ali best when she fell in love with Carol's son Lorcan.
However, after his grisly death, she found love with Jimmy Doyle - breaking mechanic Robin's heart in the process.
Ali is now back in Carrigstown and much to Carol’s disgust she only has eyes for buff Dean.
When she last exited the show, fans feared it would be for good, but Doireann revealed that a combination of curiosity and cabin fever, lead her to accept the open invitation.
“This time around I was even busier again,” she said.
“I work for a production company as head of development and I had a 52-part series that had to be filmed.
“And I also had a 16-part series that had to be filmed and it is fair to say I was busier than ever.
“So it was a nice opportunity to step outside of what I was doing.
“Plus, it was during the lockdown so it was a genuine excuse to get passed the gardai and get out in the world and see everyone.”
In a couple of weeks Ali will once again depart the show in an emotional TV climax.
And while Doireann isn’t closing the door for another stint on the show, she admits that it might be nice for another actor to take over the role.
“I have learned to never say never,” she added.
“When I left the first time, I thought that was it, done and dusted and then I was back a year later for Carol’s wedding.
“A huge part of me would love to see Ali back because there is so much about her as a character, to see her in the show and someone else playing her.
“But then there is this other part of me that is completely terrified of that happening.
“I think her ending would be a long-term breakdown but whether I have the time to do that, I don't know.
“But never say never.”
Fair City airs Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8pm on RTE One.
