Googlebox twins Fergal and Neal Tully stunned fans this week by announcing that they’ve quit the popular Virgin Media TV show.

The hit series returned last Wednesday night without the droll Cavan siblings – and Fergal took to Twitter to announce “with a heavy heart” that they will not be on the show in the near future.

Speaking to the Sunday World, Neal, who has three daughters from his former marriage, revealed it was his decision to drop out of the show “for personal reasons."

He said: “There are probably some people who think that we were sacked, but that’s not the case at all. In fact, there were discussions with Gogglebox chiefs to try and get us to stay on, so the door is still open if we ever want to go back.

“We’ve been in the show for five years and I know that Ferg would have been happy to go on, but I’ve been forced to take a step back from it for personal reasons.”

“I have to admit that I’m going to miss it,” Neal said. “I love being recognised and I love making people laugh. I get a thrill out of it. And I will absolutely miss spending time with that brother of mine. We are extremely close. There wouldn’t be a day goes by that we wouldn’t have at least four phone calls.

“Ferg lives in Cavan. I’m in a new relationship and I’ve been living in Dublin for over a year now. People who come up to me for pictures think we’re both big, rich farmers from Cavan, which couldn’t be further from the truth.”

Fergal said on Twitter this week that he couldn’t bring himself to watch the first episode of Gogglebox since they quit the show.

“It’s like watching your ex shifting your best buddy in the local nightclub,” he added.
