RTÉ's Maura Derrane has said that she's “so excited” to return home to Inis Mór with her son Cal.

The 50-year-old wrapped up the ninth series of Today with co-star Daithí Ó Sé last month and has been enjoying some much-needed time off.

Today, Maura revealed that she is crossing the country to head home to Inis Mór off the Galway coast.

The presenter shared a snap on Instagram smiling with Cal on a boat to the island.

She captioned the post: “Loving the sea air. So excited to be heading home to #inismore #aranislands #aranislandferries.”

Maura’s fans and friends flooded her Instagram comment section with love for the post, saying that the pair looked “just fabulous” together.

One user wrote: “Have a beautiful summer Maura and family.”

Another said: “Fab photo. Have a wonderful time.”

Maura previously told the RTÉ Guide that she has much more free time now that she’s taken a break from her presenting duties.

She said that her favourite thing to do is to go for a cycle with Cal: “I cycled so much as a child on the island (Aran, the bike was our mode of transport for getting around. I gave it up for a lot of years and now I'm starting to cycle again and it's great.”

She also shared at the time that she hoped to spend more time with her son on her native Inis Mór this summer.

“My mother lives there still and I stay with her. My sister Barbara lives there too and she's got a son who goes to school there so it's great for Cal - he's only two years older than him - and it's just ideal for us.”
