Normal People star Paul Mescal (24) has said he is "thrilled" to have been included in Variety magazine's prestigious '10 Actors to Watch from 2020' list.
A huge accolade for those in the industry, previous entrants have included over 35 Oscar winners and nominees, including Mahershala Ali, Timothée Chalamet, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Brie Larson, Lupita Nyong'o and Melissa Leo.
Those on the list include actors who are enjoying a "breakthrough year", in award-nominated projects and actors making their US film debuts.
"Thank you so much @Variety," Mescal wrote on Instagram. "Thrilled to be included with such incredible actors."
Also listed are Maria Bakalova, who played Sacha Baron Cohen's daughter in the Borat sequel, as well as Tiffany Boone of Little Fires Everywhere and Rosy McEwen from The Alienist: Angle of Darkness.
Irish actors who have previously made the list include Barry Keoghan, Eve Hewson, Domhnall Gleeson and Mescal's The Lost Daughter co-star Jessie Buckley. Mescal has spent the past two months on location in the Greece while filming on The Lost Daughter, which will be the directorial debut for Maggie Gyllenhaal.
A bumper year for the Kildare star, Mescal has just been cast in a modern adaptation of Georges Bizet's opera Carmen, starring Melissa Barrera.
"I'm honoured to have been cast alongside Melissa, an actor I greatly admire," Mescal said.
