Ed Sheeran pours pints in Dublin pub ahead of Irish gigs with tickets still available

The Bad Habits singer stopped for a drink in Fitzgeralds of Sandycove in Dun Laoghaire on Monday night and even got to pour his own pint of Guinness behind the bar after enjoying a meal in local Indian restaurant Rasam.

One Twitter user shared a photo of Ed posing in the pub and laughed that it was typical that he would show up “the one night ya (sic) don't go for a glass in your local.”

The musician’s trip to Fitzgeralds comes ahead of the first Irish gig of his tour in Whelan’s on Tuesday night, where some lucky fans will get up close and personal with the singer in the intimate venue.

He will then play Vicar Street on Wednesday before an estimated 160,000 people are expected to take to Croke Park for Sheeran’s two stadium concerts this weekend.

Ed’s Mathematics tour will then move to Cork next week for two gigs in Páirc Uí Chaoimh before he plays two more gigs in Thomond Park, Limerick.

After that, the singer-songwriter will head north of the border for two gigs at Boucher Playing Fields, Belfast on May 12 and 13 before heading to Cardiff and travelling around Britain.

The tour will see Sheeran return to stadiums for the first time since his record-breaking Divide Tour which took place from 2017-2019.

It officially became the most-attended and highest-grossing tour ever by the time of its completion.

While his gigs in Dublin tonight and tomorrow night are sold out, his huge outdoors gigs have tickets still available for fans.

Music industry insiders point out that compared to the last time the English star played a string of shows here, Ticketmaster no longer has a physical store presence and fans have to buy their tickets online.

Fans may also have to show ID to prove they are the buyers of tickets in a bid to adhere to recently introduced legislation to clamp down on ticket hawks.

The Shape Of You singer insisted on playing intimate indoor shows here, having first fallen in love with Whelans when as a teenager he saw Damien Rice play there.

The dad-of-one plays Dublin’s 80,000 capacity Croke Park next Saturday and Sunday. The first concert there sold out almost immediately, but there are ‘resale’ tickets available for between €80 to €90 at face value prices.

Tickets are available online for Sunday, with similar prices in operation, although it appears cheaper priced pitch tickets may have sold out for that gig.

Ed will then play Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Thursday April 28 and Friday April 29. There are resale tickets available for the first night, priced from €69 for pitch tickets to €80 for seats. Tickets for the second show range from €65 to €91.

Thomond Park in Limerick will be his next port of call on Thursday May 5 and Friday May 6, with ticket ranging from €60 to €98.

He finishes his Irish tour with two gigs in Belfast’s Boucher Playing Fields, with tickets available for both nights at £75 each.

This will be the first time the ginger-haired star has played in Ireland since his his record-breaking ‘Divide Tour’, which took place from 2017-2019.

Fans on this tour will get to see Ed perform an array of tracks off his album, ‘=’, live for the first time, and they will also experience a new production set-up with Ed’s staging in the round, surrounded by the crowd in each stadium.

A spokesperson for Aiken Promotions said: “This is a digital ticket only tour, Ticketmaster no longer operate in-person outlets. The ticket is on their device, check Ticketmaster for terms and conditions.

“There are some tickets available for the second night in cork and the second night in Croke Park.”

There will be two supporting acts art the Croke Park shows, including Limerick-based rapper Denise Chaila.

British singer-songwriter Maisie Peters will also take to the stage before Ed Sheeran.

The Croke Park concerts starts at 4pm, but Ticketmaster is encouraging attendees to check their website on the day to see when doors open. Ed will be due on stage shortly after 8pm.

The star flew into Ireland in late November to take part on the Late Late Toy Show.

His links to this country go back to his early says when he busked on Grafton Street in Dublin and also Galway.

His love for the City Of The Tribes was clearly evidence when five years ago he released the track ‘Galway Girl’.

It comes after Sheeran won lengthy High Court copyright battle alongside Snow Patrol's John McDaid for the song Shape Of You.

The pair faced accusations that they ripped off 2015 track Oh Why by Sami Chokri and Ross O’Donoghue, when writing Shape Of You.

But earlier this month, a judge concluded Sheeran “neither deliberately nor subconsciously” copied a phrase from Oh Why when writing his number one hit.

Sheeran said he now records all of his songwriting sessions on video to protect against future claims of copyright infringement or plagiarism.
