Massive fan Country star Chris Stapleton reveals how he landed a cameo in GOT

CHRIS Stapleton revealed how he landed a dream cameo role in the final epic episode of Game of Thrones shot in Northern Ireland.

And GOT superfan Stapleton says that, despite the brutal weather conditions at the time, it's an experience he'll never forget.

Although the cast spent 55 straight nights on the gruelling shoot at Magheramorne Quarry and Toome in Co Antrim, Stapleton was just a couple of days on the set.

"I was such a fan of that show," Chris tells me. "I gave my manager an impossible task, thinking it wouldn't ever happen. I said, 'Hey, see if you could get me on Game of Thrones. I just want to go see it.' I would have been happy just to go watch, but I wound up getting to be an extra… a fan of the show who gets to be on the show, what an awesome privilege that is!"

Stapleton had travelled to London to perform at the Brits with Justin Timberlake in February 2018, and he then flew to Belfast for the ultimate Game of Thrones experience.

The conditions on the GOT shoot were challenging, he admits. "It was night time, it was dark, it was cold, it was miserable, we were in the mud, but I only had to do a night of it. I think they did 55 night shoots for that particular battle scene, which was just insane. There were people everywhere. The operation of it was unfathomable to look at. Just the scale of it was remarkable.

"I very distinctly remember the guy that was directing the show saying to me, 'Let me get this straight, you flew over here just to lay in the mud?' I said, 'Pretty much.' I think he thought I was a crazy person, which maybe I was. But I think everybody would want a small piece in their favourite show.

"I got to have a few big conversations with Kit Harrington (Jon Snow). And one of the humorous memories I have is seeing the guy that played the Night King, Vlad (Vladirír Furdik), a terrifying character in full make-up, lying down on the couch in the green room while on his phone on eBay and eating dessert."

Stapleton made a fleeting appearance when the episode was broadcast. "What a cool thing that was," he adds.
