Aisling Bea has donned an English accent in the trailer for the new Home Alone reboot.

A reimagining of the 1990 Christmas comedy, Home Sweet Home Alone sees the actor and comedian play Carol, the mother of ten-year-old Max, who is played by Jojo Rabbit star Archie Yates.

Following the original Home Alone plot, the remake sees Max behind left behind at home whole his family go away from Christmas – just like Macaulay Culkin’s Kevin McAllister.

The film also stars Catastrophe’s Rob Delaney, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star Ellie Kemper, and SNL actor Kenan Thompson.

The first trailer for Home Sweet Home Alone dropped on Wednesday, and the new clip caused quite a stir online when viewers noticed that Aisling Bea adopted an English accent for her role.

One Twitter user shared a link to the clip and said: “Can’t explain how uncomfortable Aisling Bea doing an English accent has made me.”

Bea quickly hopped onto Twitter to respond to the criticism about her accent in the film with an amusing video.

The 37-year-old said: “To everybody that has been wondering online why I have an English accent in the new Home Alone movie, it’s because the character’s English. She’s from England.

“If she was from England and she spoke with an Irish accent then that would be quite strange. But she’s English.

Aisling continued: “If she was Australian, she’d probably have an Australian accent. If she was from Texas, then she’d probably have a southern accent. If she was from Scotland, she might have a Scottish accent.

“And if she was Irish, she would speak very much like I do because I am from Ireland. But this character is not from Ireland. She’s from England and so that’s why I’m doing the accent.”
