Ireland's first social event since the start of the pandemic early last year is to take place on Tuesday.

About 100 lucky invited people, including several celebrities, will take advantage of the reopening of cinemas tomorrow by attending a premiere of A Quiet Place 2.

The flick, which stars Emily Blunt and Cillian Murphy, will have its Irish gala opening in Dublin’s Odeon cinema at The Point on Tuesday evening.

“Cinemas are allowed to have 50 customers watching each screen so they have two screens showing the movie with 50 people at each, making it a total of 100 at the premiere,” reveals an insider.

Cinemas across the country reopen tomorrow and multiplexes will thow open their doors for the first time since last December.

Some smaller cinemas may not open for another few weeks – for instance Dublin’s Lighthouse does not reopen until June 25.

Bookings of up to five people can be taken, with two metres between people from different household. Masks have to be worn in the cinema lobby.

Besides A Quiet Place 2, other new movies this week include Peter Rabbit 2 and Cruella.

A biggie later this month will be Fast and Furious 9, while all eyes at the end of September will be on the new James Band movie, which will be Daniel Craig’s last, No Time To Die.
