Irish pop duo Jedward were among Britney Spears fans in LA celebrating as the superstar’s 13-year conservatorship came to an end.

Fans and supporters of the singer took to the streets outside an L.A court to mark the momentous occasion that the Free Britney campaign has been waiting for.

“I want to scream and shout, free Britney now. Yeah scream and shout, free Britney. I want to scream and shout, free Britney now,” they sang in a video.

"You are now, now rocking with Jedward and free Britney b****."

To the tune of Backstreet Boys' song Everybody, they sang: "Everybody, yeah, free Britney, free Britney. Stop the conservatorship, alright."

John and Edward Grimes, who are lifelong Britney fans revelled in celebrations along as they danced with confetti cannons.

The 39-year-old pop superstar has long been fighting a legal conservatorship that she was placed under in 2008 amid substance abuse and mental illness. Her father, Jamie Spears was in charge of Britney’s career and finances until he stepped down from his role in September after Britney brought a legal challenge to end his legal guardianship over her.

The conservatorship faced scrutiny and criticism among Britney’s millions of fans. In the last year, Spears decided to break her silence on the issue and brought the legal arrangement back into the public consciousness.

At the hearing, Judge Brenda J Penny listened to testimony for 30 minutes before terminating the legal arrangement. She specified that her temporary conservator, an accountant appointed by the court, should retain some powers.

John Zabel will be able to transfer assets to the Spears estate and execute any “supplemental” decisions on its behalf.

Jedward were not the only ones full of delight at the news, Britney herself tweeted to thank her fans.

“Good God I love my fans so much it’s crazy!!! I think I’m gonna cry the rest of the day!!!! Best day ever … praise the Lord … can I get an Amen????” she wrote, before adding #FreedBritney

RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star Bimini Bon Boulash said: “Britney Spears was my first popstar. She was my first album I bought. I feel guilt for being entertained by the 2007 saga after realising how the media treat successful women as I got older but I am SO pleased she is free. I hope she is happy and gets to live the life she earned.”
