Una Healy has told of she ended up in hospital on a first date after her date was hit by a car right before they met up last summer.

The former Saturdays singer said she had spent weeks messaging with a man on an online dating app before they arranged to meet.

But, while she was on her way to see him, disaster struck.

“I tried one of those apps,” Una told the Late Late Show.

“I was chatting away to this lad for weeks. We were getting on great. And then when we were finally allowed meet in person, I was on my way on the train to meet him, I was living over in England at the time.

“He gave me a text to say: ‘I’m going to be late, I’m sorry. I got knocked down’. He got hit by a car. Now he wasn’t hurt very badly.

"When I saw him coming, he was all in a tizzy, ‘I’m concussed. Do I look like I’m concussed?’ We went to the hospital, I waited for him and when he came out he was grand.”

Una said she doesn’t feel online dating is for her.

“You just need to meet the person. This back and forth texting for weeks, it doesn’t work. There’s only so much of the virtual world that we can actually live in.”

The former Saturdays star, now enjoying a solo career, has moved back to her native Tipperary and is loving life at home. Following a recent stint of homeschooling, kids Tadhg and Aoife have returned to the same school she attended as a child.

“It’s pure nostalgia dropping them off at school. And I even see the parents are girls I went to school with. I feel so at home. To be home is great for me.”
